Thanks for that clarification regarding Josephus&#039;s positive statements on John the Baptist.  Josephus may well have known and liked other specific &quot;popular&quot; movements beyond that, but didn&#039;t get a chance to mention them.  He nonetheless seems to favour some of the more literate groups.

		<description>We shouldn&#039;t foregt that Josephus also talks favorably about John the Baptist and his movement, and indicates that it had a favorable image among many Jews. This would be a rleigious sect that didn&#039;t fall into his philosophies (Hellenistic style) categories.</description>
