I have, for a long time, resisted the temptation to talk about my musical interests here. And quite often I managed to satisfy the craving by posting on topics at the intersection of religion and popular culture (including music and film). I couldn’t resist referring to an officially posted U2 video for Windows in the Skies which has the likes of Billie Holiday, Elton John, Louis Armstrong, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, George Harrison (and other Beatles), Ray Charles, Charles Mingus, Simon and Garfunkel, Frank Sinatra, and others singing or playing along to this U2 tune: Windows in the Sky (on You Tube).

I may begin to have a post now and then on my music interests, but I promise not to make it to obtrusive in relation to the main focus of this blog on the ancient world.

Silly me (I now say “silly” because my son is not allowed to say st*pid, so I’m not allowed either). After posting this I thought: “Hey, I should check out the lyrics for the song”. Lo and behold, this post fits well within my religion and popular culture category (so no need for my apologia):

The shackles are undone
The bullets quit the gun
The heat that’s in the sun
Will keep us when there’s none
The rule has been disproved
The stone it has been moved
The grave is now a groove
All debts are removed

Oh can’t you see what love has done?
Oh can’t you see what love has done?
Oh can’t you see what love has done?
What it’s done to me?
