Here is Marvin Meyer's response:

http://www.chapman.edu/images/userImages/mattmill/Page_11769/13th_daimon_FINAL-11408.pdf

In short, he finds the idea of a gospel-parody fairly far-fetched. I see you list some jokes on your blog. Is there an ancient genre of parody that supports DeConick's proposal?

Hello Liz,

I am confused by your comment as well. The review suggests that the translations proposed by DeConick seem convincing. The critique towards the end has nothing to do with the translation of the Gospel of Judas. Instead it deals with some of DeConick's own terminology in her discussion about the context of the Gospel of Judas.

Perhaps re-read the post, but this clarification may help too.

So are you saying that DeConick is wrong about the corrections she makes to the Judas translation? I thought I understood your post till I read your comments. Now I'm confused.

Hello Murray,

Actually quite the opposite thing is happening. In the case of DeConick, I am suggesting that the problem is anachronistic terminology that distracts from understanding historical phenomena. In the case of Mason, Mason is trying to introduce historically accurate concepts that prevent misunderstandings based on problematic terminology. In other words, Mason is trying to do away with anachronistic terminology.

Hope this clarifies things for you.

Might Elliot's & Mason's preference of the term "Judean" be just as confusing as April's use of "apostolic Christians"? I still can't but into that one!
