What on earth?! 11,000 listeners!
Posted by Phil Harland. Categories: News about podcast[13] Comments
I was just checking out the total number of listeners for specific episodes on the archive.org site and discovered that the very first episode (1.1. on Paul) now has a total of almost 11,000 downloads. The next one is approaching 8,600 and many others are above 6,000 downloads/listeners. THe point of this post: thanks for listening!! It all seems worthwhile. Things will pick up again in the coming academic year (once I’m “done” all this research I’m desperately trying to finish before the summer ends).
P.S. Now the only question is: Do I tell my wife that she was right?

Wow – I just found this website and listened to a few of the first podcasts. I am so excited to have found such a wonderful resource! I’m going to be starting as an MDiv student at Yale Divinity School in the US in the fall, but I feel kind of unprepared for grad school since I don’t know that much about Paul. I’m going to be listening to this website a lot this summer!!! Thanks for posting all these lectures!!

Better make that 11,001 listeners. I just recently discovered this podcast and I think it is great! I’m not a student or a scholar by any stretch of the imagination. I’m just a guy who, for reasons which I won’t go into here, feels the need to gain some understanding about the historical context of religious and spiritual beliefs.
I just finished listening to the Early Christian Portraits of Jesus series. Next I will be listening to the series on Diversity in Early Christianity.
Thanks for doing the podcast. It is enjoyable and educational. And it gives me something to entertain my brain while I’m at work!

The prevailing rule is that when your wife is right, you must always tell her. Always.
Thanks for a favorite listen. Please keep it up!

A good advice – always tell the mrs. the truth :)
Thanks for your podcasts!

In your shoes, I don’t think I’d tell my wife she’s right. After all, she already knows it, and if I came right out and admitted it, she’d think I had something to apologize for.

I was going to write an email about how much I love your podcast, but now that I see how many listeners you have, I’ve decided against adding to the flood of emails you probably receive.
I’m originally a Toronto girl (and even a former York student) but I’m now a student at Harvard, working on early medieval art. I didn’t have any previous background in early Christianity and your podcast has been really helpful to me. I think you’re doing a fantastic job. Your talks are so well organized, interesting, and well delivered.
Thank you so much for making this material available to the public.

Oh, and I still haven’t told Cheryl.

What is great about this podcast is that it is not an introduction to the topic. Introductions to new material are easy to find. The next level is more difficult to come across, regardless of the subject matter.
Listening to podcasts is like going back to college and its a revelation that I can still engage my mind so consistently even while life is very busy at this stage — small kids, work, etc. Thanks again.

Should be renamed Christianity 101. Thank you for your time and work on this project. Keep them coming.

Not to let it go to your head, but you ROCK!

Can’t agree with Matt more! Having done a Bachelor many years ago that covered many of your topics from essentially a theological perspective, it is a true delight to revisit these books & characters from a historical perspective.
Your depth of knowledge is obvious, but it is your enthusiasm for this subject & your consideration of your audience that makes these series so unique and worthwhile.
Thanks so much Phil – all the way from “Down Under” (Australia for all the geographically challenged:o)
